How a carrier acknowledgement differs from a delivery receipt (DLR)

Distinguishing a ‘successful’ carrier acknowledgement from a delivery receipt (DLR)

Carrier acknowledgements confirm that a message has been delivered to the mobile carrier, but this does not guarantee that it reached the recipient’s handset.

Handset delivery receipts confirm delivery to the actual device; however, not all carriers support providing these receipts.

When handset delivery receipts are supported, we include that information within the carrier acknowledgement.
